I'd really love to see you tonight
As I was thinking about starting this blog I thought I would go through each year and talk about what was going on in the world, my thoughts and memories...but this morning I heard this song and it brought me back to 1976. And while belting out this song, and getting looks from the car next to me...I thought... when I go on these trips down memory lane (dragging my kids along...or hey anyone else who seems to be around) its not in chronological order...so why should my blog run that way???
So...
this morning on the radio I hear:
England Dan and John Ford Coley and this great hit from 1976.
Within the first cords of this song, I am brought back to dancing around in my room, playing this 45.
What's a 45 you ask??
These are 45's, vinyl records so called because the speed at which they needed to be played was 45.
My record player looked much like this one :
The record on this player it a 33 (so named for the speed) and it is much larger and has a smaller hole in the middle. Since the knob on the player was made for 33's only we needed inserts to play the 45's...hence...
The 45 was for the hit single and the 33 was the album. The 45's had an "A side" and a "B side". The "A side" was the hit...say "Set Fire to the Rain" where as the "B side" would be another song from the same album but not one that was played on the radio, or at least not as much...like "Rumour Has It" (Adele by the way)...If you have ever listened to Blue Oyster Cult and their song "I'm Burning For You" (great song, but a whole nother blog)...they sing, "time to play "B" sides" this is what they are talking about.
